7 Myths About Detox
61Facts You Must Know Before You Begin Master Cleanse
Recently, my partner decided to detox her body. After all, everyone is talking about getting ready for the summer, and detox is said to help you lose 10 pounds. Many detox marketers claim that detox helps to lose weight. As journalists, my partner and I like to research extensively before buying anything, especially health products.
So we looked at a range of options, and during our research, we found certain myths that are simply just that - myths.
Don't waste your money on any of these products.
Myth 1 - Ionic foot baths
These products claim that they are full of positively charged ions which help you cleanse your colon, and remove the toxins from the pores of your feet.
Myth 2 - Sweating
It is true that sweating is one of the ways our body gets rid of toxins. But excessive sweating does not indicate that our body is excessively losing detox and that we are losing weight. So stop wasting money of long sona baths or seaweed wraps.
Myth 3 - Chelation
Many women and other dieters keen to detox and lose weight think that injecting chelation will remove calcium from the arteries. Just not true. In fact, taking chelation pills to lose weight can be quite dangerous to your health.
Myth 4 - Patches
It might sound funny, but there are products in the market that offer to remove toxins from our feet with foot patches made of vinegar. Stay away from these.
Myth 5 - Charcoal capsules
The job of removing toxins from your body is that of your liver. Because many celebrities are endorsing these activated charcoal capsules, it is quite tempting to pick up a pack. One such celeb is Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding who says she sprinkles it on her food.
Myth 6 - Colon Cleanser Kits
These are herb capsules. Remember, it's a big myth that cleansing your colon (master cleanse) helps you shade excess pounds. Far from it. Of course, it is good to cleanse your colon, but not necessarily to lose weight.
Myth 7 - Herbal tea
Herbal supplements, including herbal tea, are definitely good for you. But they are not something you need to use to reduce weight.
So, there you go. These are some of the myths we uncovered. In fact, we came across a Washington Times article that quotes scientists as saying that the detoxification products are a waste of money.
